Core-shell technology columns have been shown to provide higher efficiency separation than corresponding fully porous columns of the same particle size. This increase in efficiency can be utilised to either enhance the resolution in the separation of complex mixtures, or through using an appropriate column with a shorter length a faster separation can be achieved.

Abacavir and Lamivudine treat HIV with other medications. The USP monograph describes using an L1 column for separation. This study shows that the XTERRA® 3.5 µm MS C18 column can be replaced with either a Luna Omega 3 µm C18 or a Kinetex 2.6 µm EVO C18 column, both alternative L1 columns.
