Derek’s focus is mainly on persistent organic chemicals and, more recently, emerging contaminants. When asked about the future of environmental analysis in 2021, he said: “We need to look towards more artificial intelligence-based approaches for analyzing and collecting data [...] There’s also room for improved analytical methods; we always need better tools, but we also need to apply the ones we have more widely.”
