Main research aims? I use high-resolution mass spectrometry to decipher contamination with anthropogenic organic chemicals, understand their fate in the natural and engineered aquatic environment and link the exposure to impact.
Most critical environmental issue? Analytical scientists should support necessary changes due to climate change, such as the energy transition, so that they are efficient and do not create new problems.
Biggest challenge in environmental analysis? One big challenge I work on is deciphering the exposure of the environment and humans with thousands of man-made chemicals. This can only be achieved through a combination of appropriate sampling, sample preparation, separation and sensitive detection techniques together with data mining tools.
