Meet Meriem Gaida

Meriem began her separation science research by developing prediction models for comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC), helping automate method development and support reliable data processing. She also created workflows combining machine learning with classical statistics. Today, she applies GC×GC in industry to answer regulatory questions and ensure product compliance.

“What excites me most is seeing GC×GC move beyond its traditional academic setting and become a practical tool for solving real-world challenges in industry,” she says. Meriem also trains colleagues to use the technique and troubleshoot independently. “For me, this is where the real impact lies: transforming an advanced analytical technique into a routine, accessible, and valuable tool that enables better scientific and regulatory decisions.”

Originally from Tunisia, Meriem has studied and worked in several countries. “Each experience exposed me to different cultures, ways of thinking, and approaches to science,” she says. “It pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me develop stronger communication skills, empathy, adaptability, and critical thinking.” She also considers communication an important part of research: “Being able to explain an idea clearly to someone with a different level of expertise has taught me to think about problems from different perspectives.”
