Shodex SUGAR-Series: Polymer-based HPLC Columns for Ligand Exchange Chromatography
The analysis of a wide variety of sugars and sugar alcohols can be achieved by using the Shodex SUGAR column series. This column series is typically applied for the analysis of food, biochemical and natural products. The stationary phase consists of pure polymer-based particles (i.e. styrene divinylbenzene copolymer) functionalized by sulfo groups bearing counter metal cations like Ca2+, Pb2+, Na+ or Zn2+. Based on the different selectivity of the metal cation and different pore sizes, mono-, oligo-, polysaccharides as well as sugar alcohols can be effectively separated. Moreover, in the case of very complex sugar samples a combination of different SUGAR columns, especially in the following order SUGAR KS-800 series (Na+), SUGAR SC series (Ca2+) and SUGAR SP0810 (Pb2+), is possible to increase the separation efficiency and resolution.
