Demanding applications such as gas chromatography can’t tolerate even low levels of impurities, which is why users tend to choose ultra-high purity gases. This is the best way that they can minimize the risk of critical impurities to their process, and while this is good practice you should also consider that not all UHP gases are the same. Even in a UHP gas that has a purity of 99.9999% there is of course that other 0.0001% where impurities are present. The question then becomes what are the impurities? As this article discusses.
