ALEXYS Neurotransmitter Analyzer for Monoamines and their Acidic Metabolites

ALEXYS Neurotransmitter Analyzer for Monoamines and their Acidic Metabolites

Over the last few years, many papers have appeared on improving the speed of separation and/or analyzing small sample volumes at low detection limits. In this application note a fast UHPLC method for noradrenaline (NA), dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT), and their metabolites homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid (5-HIAA), and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) is presented with electrochemical detection (ECD). The concentrations of NA, DA and 5-HT in microdialysis fractions can be below 100 pmol/L. In combination with a small sample volume of a few microliters, this requires an extremely low limit of detection down to the range of 0.1 – 0.5 fmol on column. These low LOD’s are accessible with the ALEXYS Neurotransmitter Analyzer.
