Small Wonder

I spy, with my little eye... a strontium atom in an ion trap. Electric fields hold the atom in place between the needle tips, while its absorption and re-emission of photons from the blue-violet laser make it visible as a tiny blue dot. A former library manager and storyteller, I have wanted to write for magazines since I was six years old, when I used to make my own out of foolscap paper and sellotape and distribute them to my family.
