This issue features the ‘-omics explorers’ building a genetic and chemical profile of the plant. Despite being one of man’s oldest crops, cannabis is little studied, and its dazzling genetic diversity makes selective breeding a challenge. We meet three intrepid scientists exploring cannabis at a molecular level, and applying the findings to create new and better varieties.

In Upfront we report on cannabis compliance, upcoming events, detecting cannabinoids in breast milk and how medical marijuana laws affect use of prescription medicines. The In My View section includes personal opinions on pesticide testing, marijuana versus cannabis, and encouraging mindful consumption. Plus, we sit down with Robert Martin, founder of CW Analytical and Executive Director of the Association of Commercial Cannabis Laboratories (ACCL) to get his thoughts on cleaning up the industry.
