In another life… I turned 40 this year, and this seems to be a moment where you ask yourself such questions! Just for the record, I love my job and wouldn’t want to be doing anything else. That said, running a wine farm in Stellenbosch (South Africa) sounds like something to do!
Closer to home, I might have become a pilot (it runs in the family).
Heroes? My mentor/hero/continued source of inspiration is Gert Desmet. It is a privilege and absolute honor to be able to work with someone who is so established, and yet so humble and accessible. Gert always finds the time for scientific discussions, but has also been a great support in so many other aspects of my academic life. I’m forever grateful for this, and look forward to the many adventures still ahead of us.
