We are developing 3D-printed integrated microfluidic devices that have pumps and valves, and using them to analyze for a panel of maternal serum biomarkers related to preterm birth.
Luckiest break
My first US government grant (Department of Defense). The program officer initially told me he wouldn’t be able to fund it, and suggested I withdraw the proposal. About a week later he called and told me he had received my withdrawal letter, but that he had a new plan to try to get it funded: he asked me to submit a revised budget (about 10 percent higher!) and got it funded.
My hero of nano
If I had to choose one person, it would be my postdoctoral advisor, Charlie Lieber (Harvard University). He’s been at the forefront of nanoscience for over two decades, has an amazing breadth and depth of scientific knowledge, an outstanding ability to perceive and develop emerging areas of research, and is a great mentor to the people in his research group.
Nominator comment: “Outstanding scientist and nice fellow.”
