Klaus Witt

The Power List 2017

Klaus Witt

Senior Technology Lead, R&D, Liquid Phase Separations Business, Agilent Technologies, Germany.

Motivation
Appling technology to make this world a better one. During my career I met three very influential persons: Dave Packard, Bill Hewlett and Steven Jobs. Each of them gave me valuable advice, which I still use in daily work.

Biggest surprise
With my electronics background I was used to simulating designs. Working with Bohuslav Gaš, we learned that simulation works even for liquid separations but it needs a cross-disciplinary team for it to become predictive.

What’s next?
Having started as a youngster with Hewlett Packard, back in summer 1979, I have enjoyed a long and successful career with the company for more than 38 years. Now I am looking forward to retirement and spending time with my family.

Nominator comment: “Klaus Witt is the leading inventor of 70 granted patent families for Hewlett-Packard/Agilent. In my view, he is one of the most productive inventors in the HPLC instrument industry.

The Magnificent Tens

The Magnificent Tens
After 2016’s celebration of women in analytical science, we return to the Top 100 for 2017.
But there’s a twist. This summer, we asked you to nominate scientists in ten categories – from the stars of separation science, to omics explorers, to the mentors training the next generation.
